Animal cruelty legislation in Brazil
In Brazil, violent crimes against non-human animals are specified by Bill 9.605 from 1998. Perpetrators can be penalized with a fine and up to one year in jail.
In December, a special senate commission passed Bill 1095/19 to increase to five years the period of detention for violent crimes against non-human animals.
